This has been a very rough few week for almost all of us. Sometimes its easy to feel like this will never end. It's OK to feel this way but try to remember that none of this is forever. This too will pass. Do you know how I know? I know because Jesus defeated the grave. The disciples and Jesus must have felt this way the night that he was crucified. It must have felt terrible for them. It may be hard for us to imagine but they were his friends too! Even Judas who betrayed him. Sometimes I think that we all don't like Judas because of what he had done, but let's face it we betray and crucify Jesus everytime we sin. He is human too. He obviously felt some remorse because he threw the money away and committed suicide after. I don't think this was the right was for him to respond. I'm sure Jesus would have been willing to forgive him. I think this teaches us to run to the Father rather than trying to fix our problems by ourselves because the Father knows best. Something that hit me today was that Jesus had the same feelings and we do. He felt afraid that night when he sweat blood. He knew what was going to happen to him in the coming days. In fact he prayed for God to "take this cup away," but when the Father said no he didn't whine. He allowed it to happen. Also can you imagine what Mary must have felt seeing her only son treated so poorly and having to accept it? While all of this is heartbreaking there is hope. I didn't realize why Good Friday was called Good Friday until a few years ago. But now I know why it is good. It is good because he defeated death by dying for our sins and rising from the dead and thereby setting us free. You see, you cannot have Easter Sunday without Good Friday. Jesus had to die before he could rise and set us free from sin. Easter is one of the most joyful days in the year but it comes right after the most heartbreaking. Close your eyes and imagine the Joy that the disciples and Mary felt seeing the Risen Lord!
I think that this can also be applied to the Coronavirus. Its sad that so many people are dying and that we won't be able to celebrate Easter at church with the Eucharist. But it brings us together in a different way. The Catholic Church is still universal! Even in the midst of this terrible crisis! Just think about the other Christians and Catholics that are celebrating Easter around the world! Unfortunately Conavirus can take lives, and events and celebrations but it can not take our belief in Jesus Christ away! Take heart in this! And remember you can't have a rainbow without a little rain. Jesus will overcome and this will soon be over. Happy Easter everyone!
Love,
Anjalee
