10 Ways to Spend Time with Your Dad on Father’s Day

Well well well! Can you believe that it’s already June? That definitely means summer is here, pools are open, vacations are in progress, and Father’s Day is right around the corner. You might be spending the special day with your whole family or maybe you it's just you and your dad. Either way here are some fun and thoughtful ways to spend time with him this Sunday:

1. Take him out to his favorite restaurant

Everyone has a favorite place to eat including your dad so try and find out where that is and make a reservation if it’s a nicer place or just plan a time to go. You might just casually ask him what it is or feel free to use your mom for intel.

2. Plan a picnic at his favorite spot in town

Maybe it’s a place he used to go to frequently when he was a child, a place where he met your mother, or the park he took you to as a child. Wherever it is just find a cool spot, pack a lunch he enjoys, and then maybe take him out for dessert in town.

3. Plan an activity he loves to do

Wether he enjoys a good game of mini gulf, bowling, running, biking, or whatever, set up a time to do it with just him or your whole family and have fun! Even if it’s an activity that you don’t like very much or are not good at just try it anyway because it’s the time spent together that counts.

4. Take him to a special Father’s Day event in town

Almost all cities and towns set up special events on or near Father’s Day for families to participate in, dads and sons, dads and daughters, or husbands and wives. Check your local news and churches to see what activities they have planned such as family fun day, dances, lunch ins, potlucks, etc.

5. Plan a day of relaxation at home

Some dads might want to just spend the day at home and relax so why not cook him a meal, watch his favorite movie, play board games, etc. Each family member can be assigned an activity so that dad can sit back, relax, and let the good times roll.

6. Plan a movie night for him and your mom

If your family decides to spend the first part of the day together but then the parents just want to do something, plan a movie night at home for them or get them tickets to go see something at the movie theater. Some theaters bring back old movies on Father’s Day that your parents might really enjoy seeing again on the big screen or check your local library, Redbox, streamlining service, etc. to find something they would like to watch. Make the living room cozy and romantic for them then head into your room with your siblings to hang out or go out for awhile while they enjoy some alone time.

7. Host a Father’s Day party with the other families in your church or neighbors

If your mom is ok with having guests over ask if you can host a get together with the other families like a grill out, backyard bbq, game night, potluck, etc. That way all the dads can socialize and spend time with their families.

8. Cook him a feast at home

If you or family isn’t interested in going out to eat why not cook for him at home? Again find out what his favorite meal is and set up the table nicely for a family meal. Don’t forget to play his favorite tunes in the background as long as it’s not heavy metal.

9. Play pass around dad with your family

Ok before you get the wrong idea let me explain what I mean by this. If you happen to have a big family with lots of siblings it might be a good idea to set aside time for each person to spend time with him. Have each person pick an activity that they enjoy doing with him and then pass him around to the next person after their time is up. Everyone could have an hour with him then be passed on to the next person. That way everyone gets to have quality time with dad!

10. Go to Adoration with him

If you want to change things up a bit and do something different ask him if you can go to Adoration together. You could combine this with another activity I listed or just do it be itself but regardless of what you choose, this is a wonderful way to spend time with your earthly father and your Heavenly One!

I hope you have enjoyed this list and remember to give your awesome Creator the time He needs too this Father’s Day!
